Wegenkaart landkaart Kamchatka Eastern Siberia | ITMB

Een degelijke kaart met aanduidingen van o.a. nationale parken, vliegveld, benzinepomp, dirt-roads en kleine plattegrond van hoofdstad. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken.

Schaal: Kamchatka 1 : 2.000.000 & Eastern Siberia 1 : 3.600.000

This is the most recently released title in our Russia series. In this revised edition, we have expanded the area of coverage to include the portion of Russia known as the Far East Republic and the eastern portions of Siberia (in January, we released Siberia itself). Lets start with the Kamchatka peninsula itself. This is a very interesting adventure travel destination, famous for its geothermal geysers and its isolation from the rest of Russia. There is only one city of any size, Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky (which I genuinely hope is colloquially known as PK), the capital and location of the peninsula only significant airport. We have included an inset map of the city. We also include a map of the famous Valley of Geysers (south of Klyuchi). Interestingly, the peninsula has a town called Esso. The other side of the sheet portrays a vast region from the Russian occupied island of Sakhalin and the Okhotsk Sea north to that portion of what we call the Arctic Ocean but is really a series of seas (this one being the East Siberian Sea) and west to the Lena River. The Trans Siberian railway west towards Moscow is shown, as well as connections into Mongolia and China. This is not a well known region of Russia and is definitely for the adventurer (I would love to hear from anyone who has stayed at the hotel in Novaya Chara, which is as close to being the middle of nowhere I can imagine. Actually, this portion of Russia is loaded with hotels and camping grounds. The map also shows a fascinating road going from close to the border with China all the way to a bay on the ocean. That would be quite a trip to take!

Vogelgids Birds of East Asia | Bloomsbury

This is the first single volume guide ever devoted to the eastern Asian avifauna. The eastern Asian region, centring especially on the major islands off the continental coast (including Japan and Taiwan) and the immediately adjacent areas of the Asian continent from Kamchatka in the north and including the Korean Peninsula are an important centre of endemism.

Birds endemic to this region include representatives of many of the major families, from the world's largest eagle - Steller's Sea Eagle - to the tiny Formosan Firecrest. The east Asian continental coast and the offshore islands also form one of the world's major international bird migration routes, especially for waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors, while the east Asian continental mainland itself is home to a wide range of species little-known to western ornithologists such as Scaly-sided Merganser, Oriental Stork and Mugimaki Flycatcher.

The guide features the most up to date text available, which, in conjunction with extensive colour plates throughout, facilitate the field identification of all of the species known from the region. Distribution maps enhance the text by providing a visual analysis of the summer, winter and migratory ranges of all species.

Wegenatlas Trans Siberian Railroad | ITMB

Klein formaat wegenatlas (A5) van de Trans-Siberische spoorlijn, uitgebracht door ITMB.

It is not often that one can publish a map that has never been done before. I seem to say that rather frequently! The Trans Siberian is one of the great railway trips of all time, crossing vast areas of steppe land and tundra as it wends its way from Moscow to Vladivostok. There are actually two routes for much of the western portion, and branch off lines to Mongolia and northern China in the east, as well as a very unusual route across the top of Lake Baikal called the Amur, or BAM, line. The only effective way to show east west rail networks this diverse is via an atlas and that is just what we have done. The entire route, with an extra page for those starting in St. Petersburg is covered nicely, with inset pages showing St. Petersburg, Moscow, and the heritage cities of Sergiev Posad and Suzdal. Both branches of the Trans-Siberian are shown and most of the Baikal Amur (BAM) line. This type of map has never been attempted before, so we are anxious to receive feedback.

Reisverhaal Cycling Home from Siberia | Rob Lilwall

'It is late October, and the temperature is already -40C...My thoughts are filled with frozen rivers that may or may not hold my weight; empty, forgotten valleys haunted by emaciated ghosts and packs of ravenous, merciless wolves.'In 2004 Rob Lilwall arrived in Siberia equipped only with a bike and a healthy dose of fear. CYCLING HOME FROM SIBERIA recounts his epic three and a half year, 30,000 mile journey back to England via the foreboding jungles of Papua New Guinea, an Australian cyclone and Afghanistan's war-torn Hindu Kush.A gripping story of endurance and adventure, this is also a spiritual journey giving a poignant insight into life on the road in some of the world's toughest corners.www.roblilwall.com

review:

I'm not sure Rob Lilwall knows it, but he has penned a two-wheeled classic. I wanted to rise up singing and strap on my bicycle clips. -- The Guardian 20090919 Lilwall has a wonderful ability to inspire trust in his readers -- The Guardian 20090919 Lilwall's story is a remarkable one...enhanced by the fact that he has a writer's skill for conveying a sense of place. -- The Sunday Telegraph 20090913 A rite of passage adventure, full of thrills, excitement and endurance tests -- The Irish Times 20090907 Rob Lilwall is such a transparently decent, honest and likeable bloke that it is difficult not to become involved in the highs and lows of his journey...Ever since Odysseus, the traveller has returned home to find himself wiser and more fulfilled than when he departed. Rob Lilwall is no exception

Can you name anyone who has published a detailed map of Siberia? I cannot! This is one of the largest geographical regions on earth, comparable in magnitude to the Sahara or Gobi desert areas, or the vast Prairie regions of Canada, but it has never had a travel map. Well, now it does and the last frontier of mapping the world has been breached. The part of Russia east of the Ural Mountains is vast; there is no other word to describe the enormity of this region of grassland and tundra. Technically, it does not extend all the way to the Pacific Ocean, but it does go from the Arctic Ocean to the Chinese and Mongolian borders. This is not a part of the world well travelled, but it could become so with a good, detailed map. We start in the west at Omsk on the Irtysh River, where the northern and southern branches of the Trans-Siberian Railway line cross each other. I am afraid that most of the cities of the region would not be well known, but I notice Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, and Lake Baikal. This is wilderness with a capital W, a region waiting to be discovered by intrepid travelers. Go for it! You can actually drive across Siberia now, as well as go by train. We actually discovered a road going all the way to the Arctic Ocean!
