Stadsplattegrond Kolkata Calcutta North East India | ITMB

This is the first map published of Calcutta, the historic city at the mouth of the famous Hooghly River. I spent a week in Calcutta many moons ago and retain vivid memories of the city that is the essence of the passion that drives India. Now re-named Kolkata, this detailed city map shows the Howrah railway station, the exotic Burra Bazaar, Fort William, the Queen Victoria Gardens, the zoo, the Chowringhee and Esplanade hotel and entertainment sections, and the Sudder Street backpacker area of cheap hotels. The other side of the map shows the entire northeastern segment of the country from Varanasi (Benares) and Raipur in the west to the temple city of Bhubaneshwar in the south and the Nepalese/Chinese/Burmese borders in the north and east; truly a marvelous map of a part of the world that has not received much coverage up to now; printed double-sided on paper.

Reisverhaal Sikkim | Andrew Duff

This is the true story of Sikkim, a tiny Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas that survived the end of the British Empire only to be annexed by India in 1975.It tells the remarkable tale of Thondup Namgyal, the last King of Sikkim, and his American wife, Hope Cooke, thrust unwittingly into the spotlight as they sought support for Sikkim's independence after their 'fairytale' wedding in 1963. As tensions between India and China spilled over into war in the Himalayas, Sikkim became a pawn in the Cold War in Asia during the 1960s and 1970s. Rumours circulated that Hope was a CIA spy.

Meanwhile, a shadowy Scottish adventuress, the Kazini of Chakung, married to Sikkim's leading political figure, coordinated opposition to the Palace. As the world's major powers jostled for regional supremacy during the early 1970s Sikkim and its ruling family never stood a chance. On the eve of declaring an Emergency across India, Indira Gandhi outwitted everyone to bring down the curtain on the 300 year-old Namgyal dynasty.Based on interviews and archive research, as well as a retracing of a journey the author's grandfather made in 1922, this is a thrilling, romantic and informative glimpse of a real-life Shangri-La.

Wegenkaart landkaart Bangladesh India oost | ITMB

Een degelijke kaart met aanduidingen van o.a. nationale parken, vliegveld, benzinepomp, dirt-roads en kleine plattegrond van hoofdstad. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken.

I like Bangladesh. Sure, the government is too corrupt and the country gets schmucked every time there's a hurricane, but the people are friendly and hard-working and gradually improving their country. As a travel destination, Bangladesh has to be considered as part of a trip to India for most people, so in addition to updating and modernizing our artwork, we have added a map of the easternmost portion of India, showing access routes and sites of interest in both countries. One of the great treats of Bangladesh is to take a ferry from Dhaka to Khulna, a two-day trip. The map also includes an inset of Dhaka, the capital, although we had to show only a few of the thousands of mosques in the city.

Legend Includes:
Roads by classification, Airports, Ferrie routes, Bus stations, Car parks, State boudaries, border crossings, Camping areas, Hotels, Hospitals, Post offices, Shopping centers, Police Stations, Libraries, Embasssies, Banks, Stadiums, Museums, Tourist information centers, Points of interest, Temples, Monuments and historical sites, Churches, Mosques, Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, Jain Temples, Palaces, Notable buildings, Cinemas and theatres, Waterfalls, Lighthouses, Forts, Wildlife reserves, Bird sanctuaries, Natural reserves, Tea plantings, Mountain peaks and elevations, Caves, Hot springs, Gardens, Golf courses, Rafting, World heritage sites, Viewpoints, Beaches, Universities, and much more.

Reisverhaal Land of the Dawn Lit Mountains Arunachal Pradesh | Antonia Bolingbroke Kent

A thrilling and dangerous adventure through Arunachal Pradesh, one of the world's least explored places.

'A fabulously thrilling journey through a beguiling land' Joanna Lumley

'With tremendous verve and determination Antonia plunges through an extraordinary world. Thank heavens she survived to tell this vivid and thoughtful tale' Ted Simon, author of Jupiter's Travels

'A tale of delight and exuberance - and one I'd thoroughly recommend. Bolingbroke-Kent proves a great travelling companion - compassionate, spirited and with a sharp eye for human oddityBenedict Allen, author of Edge of Blue Heaven and Into the Abyss

'A transformative journey that gripped me from the very first pageAlastair Humphreys, author of The Boy Who Biked the World and Microadventures

'Remote, mountainous and forbidding, here shamans still fly through the night, hidden valleys conceal portals to other worlds, yetis leave footprints in the snow, spirits and demons abound, and the gods are appeased by the blood of sacrificed beasts'

A mountainous state clinging to the far north-eastern corner of India, Arunachal Pradesh - meaning 'land of the dawn-lit mountains' - has remained uniquely isolated.

Steeped in myth and mystery, not since pith-helmeted explorers went in search of the fabled 'Falls of the Brahmaputra' has an outsider dared to traverse it.

Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent sets out to chronicle this forgotten corner of Asia. Travelling some 2,000 miles she encounters shamans, lamas, hunters, opium farmers, fantastic tribal festivals and little-known stories from the Second World War.

In the process, she discovers a world and a way of living that are on the cusp of changing forever.

'A beautifully written, exciting and revealing book that harks back to a golden age of travel writing' Lois Pryce, author of Revolutionary Ride
