Wandelkaart Topografische kaart OL8 Explorer Chichester, South Harting Selsey | Ordnance Survey

OS Explorer map sheet OL 8 covers Chichester, South Harting, Selsey, Emsworth, Havant, Horndean, Midhurst and Wittering. Highlights of the area include: Hayling Island, Selsey Bill, Chichester Harbour, Sussex Downs, East Hampshire, and South Downs Way. It is a direct replacement for Explorer 120.

These highly detailed maps show all the administrative boundaries, settlements as small as isolated farms, the road network down to unfenced roads and country tracks, and field boundaries (hedges and drystone walls) which make navigation across the countryside much easier. Steep gradients on roads are indicated. Various landmarks, e.g. powerlines, archaeological sites, windmills, churches and lighthouses are shown and additional graphics indicate natural terrain features such as cliffs, scree, mud and vegetation variations. The contour interval is 5 metres in the lower parts of the country and 10 metres in the uplands, and spot heights are marked. Each map covers an area of 30 x 20km (i.e. approx. 19 x 12 miles), with some double-sided maps covering more, as indicated in the individual descriptions. The maps are fully GPS compatible, with the National Grid shown at 1km intervals and latitude and longitude indicated by margin ticks at 1'.

The OL  series has replaced the earlier, green-cover Pathfinder maps. The Explorer series is now complete and covers all of England, Wales & Scotland. Some sheets for popular areas like the National Parks are still branded as Outdoor Leisure (OL) maps, but are now included in this series as the cartography is the same as that in the Explorer Maps. The Explorer maps offer a substantial improvement on the Pathfinder series, with greater use of colour, larger area per map, and stronger emphasis on information for ramblers and tourists.

This series is ideal for walking and other outdoor pursuits and each map shows a large amount of information for ramblers and tourists. Public rights of way are shown (except in Scotland), together with other routes with public access: National Trails and Recreational Paths, permitted paths and bridleways, and selected cycle routes. Open access land created under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 is marked. Tourist information includes caravan and camp sites, Park & Ride locations, recreation/leisure/sport centres, museums, historic buildings, English Heritage and National Trust sites, rural pubs, etc. The map legend is in English only, except for the tourist information content which is also in French and German.

Wegenkaart landkaart 504 Southeast England Zuid oost Engeland Kent | Michelin

Tien wandelingen waarin u Charles Dickens tegenkomt.

Wandelgids 44 Pathfinder Guides Essex | Ordnance Survey

The Essex landscape gently undulates, with the hilliest country in the north and west, near the Herfordshire and Cambridgeshire borders. On the marshes of Essex, for example, there is a genuine feeling of solitude that is hard to find anywhere else in southern England. Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain, is featured in one of the walks, and there are routes through Epping and Hatfield forests, which contain some of the finest surviving fragments of England's medieval forests. The Essex-Suffolk border is Constable Country, and walkers are guided through Dedham Vale, passing Flatford Mill and Willy Lott's Cottage.

The Explorer series has replaced the earlier, green-cover Pathfinder maps.

The map legend is in English only, except for the tourist information content which is also in French and German

Wandelgids South Downs Way, described east west and west east | Cicerone

Guidebook for walking the South Downs Way long-distance path that leads the walker along the 100 miles (160km) between Eastbourne and Winchester, high on the escarpment, exploring the Sussex Downs and East Hampshire Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Details of the walk split into 12 daily stages, described in both directions.

The South Downs Way National Trail is a glorious walk from Eastbourne to Winchester, exploring the Sussex Downs and East Hampshire Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The official South Downs Way leads the walker along the 100 miles (160km) route following the northern escarpment for much of the way and rarely descends to habitation except where river valleys interrupt the regular course of the Downs.

This guidebook describes the South Downs Way in 12 daily stages and is illustrated with OS mapping. The South Downs Way links many ancient and historical tracks, passing many sites of particular interest to those with a thirst for the past, but the main joy is the appreciation and recognition of this surprisingly secretive land that will please and delight any walker.
Seasons

The South Downs Way can be walked at all times of year – this is one of the driest and warmest parts of England.

Centres

Eastbourne, Alfriston, Lewes, Amberley, Burint, Exton, Winchester

Difficulty

Fietskaart Cycle Map South Coast East | Sustrans

The official route map for the 191-mile (307km) eastern part of National Cycle Network Route 2 along England’s South Coast from Brockenhurst to Dover.

This linear map shows the route and immediate surrounding area over a series of separate map panels. The full colour map based on Ordnance Survey data shows clearly mapped cycle routes on traffic-free paths, quiet lanes and roads, with easy to read contours, route profiles and mile markers. Also features detailed inset maps for the major towns and cities, tourist info and cycle shop and hire information, and other local routes.

Starting from Brockenhurst, deep in the New Forest, this eastern part of NCN Route 2 is almost entirely flat. Although there are no big hills to tackle, that means there hardly any down-hills to relax on either, so make sure you take plenty of breaks on this spectacular stretch of England’s south coast.

Fortunately there is plenty to see and do along the way, and four ferries – across Southampton Water, the River Hamble, from Gosport to Portsmouth, and onto Hayling Island – will also help take some of the strain. Pause and take in the historic naval dockyards of Southampton and Portsmouth, marvel at the mosaic remains of Fishbourne Roman Palace, and enjoy beautiful Chichester with its stunning cathedral. From there the route heads coastwards where you ride along the promenades of Bognor, Littlehampton, Worthing, Hove and Brighton with all their Georgian and Victorian splendour.

After Seaton you head inland to avoid scaling the dizzy heights Beachy Head - the south-eastern tip of the South Downs, Britain’s newest National Park. Once you rejoin the coast you ride through more quintessential English seaside towns including Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings. There the ancient region of ‘Cinque Ports’ begins  as does the big-skied, sparsely populated wetland area of Romney Marsh. Out of Folkestone you tackle the only real climb of the route over the Kent Downs, before being instantly rewarded with a view of Dover, the end of your ride.

Also features detailed inset maps for the major towns and cities, tourist info and cycle shop and hire information, and other local routes.

The ride from London to Brighton has become one of the most popular cycles in Britain in recent years, and no wonder with so much to see and enjoy along the way. Starting on the banks of the River Thames in Greenwich in the shadow of the iconic tea clipper sailing ship Cutty Sark, and next to internationally-renowned landmarks such as the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum, the route heads along National Cycle Network Routes 20 and 21 all the way to the famous Brighton Palace Pier.

On leaving Greenwich the ride heads due south along the Ravensbourne and Pool Rivers to New Beckenham, from where you continue south to Elmers End and pass through the lovely South Norwood Country Park. There are several traffic-free sections to enjoy along this section of the route with pleasant stretches through Holt Wood near Warlingham and Mercers Country Park near Redhill.

Wandelgids Pelgrimsroute The Pilgrims' Way | Cicerone

This guidebook details the Pilgrims' Way, an historic pilgrimage route to Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, home of the shrine of the martyred archbishop, St Thomas Becket. The route is described both from Winchester in Hampshire (136½ miles) and London's Southwark Cathedral (90¼ miles), with an optional spur to Rochester Cathedral.

With relatively easy walking on ancient byways, the route from Winchester is presented in 15 stages of 4¾-13½ miles: it can be comfortably completed in under a fortnight. It follows a major chalk ridge through scenic countryside, taking in characterful towns and villages and historic churches. The route from Southwark is described in 10 stages and includes a visit to the ruined Lesnes Abbey.

Detailed route description is accompanied by 1:50,000 OS mapping, advice on making the most of a trip and information on the historical background to the pilgrimage, key historical figures and local points of interest. Accommodation listings and details of facilities and transport links can be found in the appendices.

Pilgrimages to Becket's shrine began within a few years of the saint's death in 1170, although Canterbury was a popular destination even before this time due to the nearby shrine of St Augustine. The route has featured in literature, drama and film, and forms the setting for Geoffrey Chaucer's famous Middle English work, The Canterbury Tales.

Fietsgids Cycling London to Paris | Cicerone

This guidebook describes two long-distance cycle routes between London and Paris: the 'classic route' and the Avenue Verte. The continuing development of national cycle networks in both countries and an increased interest in cycling have further increased the popularity of this journey, both as a cycle tour and for sponsored challenges. Both routes are well within the capabilities of cyclists of moderate fitness and will generally take between five days and a week - meaning that a round trip, including a few days sightseeing in Paris, can easily be accomplished in a fortnight.

The classic route is presented in 11 stages; the Avenue Verte in 9. Primary route description for both routes is from London to Paris, but the reverse direction is also described. Each stage includes clear, step-by-step route description, mapping and information on local points of interest. An overview of facilities on route, a list of useful contacts (including tourist offices and hostels) and a bilingual glossary can be found in the appendices.

At 490km (excluding the Channel crossing), the traditional/classic route crosses the Channel either by ferry from Dover to Calais or via the Channel Tunnel. An alternative route, the Avenue Verte, was launched in 2012 to celebrate the London Olympics, offering a shorter journey of 387km but requiring a longer ferry crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe. Whereas the classic route includes quiet country roads, rural tracks and a few short stretches on main roads, the Avenue Verte makes maximum use of Sustrans off-road cycle tracks in England and voies vertes (rural cycle routes) in France, although there are still a few sections of road-cycling on quiet roads (the long-term aim is to make it traffic-free throughout). This is the first guidebook to include both the waymarked Avenue Verte and the non-waymarked classic route and provides all the information you need to enjoy a successful trip.

Wegenkaart landkaart 8 OS Road Map South East England including London | Ordnance Survey

Wandelkaart Topografische kaart 145 Explorer Guildford, Farnham | Ordnance Survey

The Explorer series has replaced the earlier, green-cover Pathfinder maps.

The map legend is in English only, except for the tourist information content which is also in French and German
